How do you quarantine a mandarin?

I've had a lot of luck getting smaller Green Mandarins on to Nutra Mar Ova. Spotted Mandarins almost always go for the Ova as well. In the store we put the prawn eggs in a ring of pvc so the flow doesn't take it. Works very well.

Did you guys just throw nutamar in and poof they ate it or did you have to really do the progression from live to frozen?

Just curious (not planning on doing this) can a red mandarin and spotted get along? I'm guessing they wouldnt mate but just curious. Also has anyone added a mandarin to the tank after one has already established itself? For instance If I got a one now and another when I upgrade (I want to get a 125 w/ 55 gallon sump) would they be ok? Not very likely to mate but would they get along?

edit: thanks for the input everyone! of course you cant just ask one question and have it stop there! :P

Progression for mine but i believe that you can mix then if theirs enough food

I never had much luck with mandarins, there were plenty of pods in tank, and triedfeeding prepaired food. My word of advice is dont rely on pods being in the tank, just because their there dosnt mean theyl eat. There was an article in 2011 coral magazine il ost link too later. Sums up the topic very well. And i would quarenteen. Mandarins are suseptable to a form of fin rot that kills in just a few days.

That is a pretty awesome article.

Only thing that made me pause:
Everyone says baby brine shrimp are "useless" but I read somehwere that it was the other way around. Adult brine shrimp were only good if you gut loaded them.

I remember them not being nutritious but read in another thread that the new born (like less than a couple days old) baby brine shrimp actually be better because the have more fat and healthy oils. Granted this wasn't published information but the guy that was doing it had good results.

ps: ive been looking at your build for ideas. I've had my 55 gallon for 6 months now and just got another one for free!
