How do you recommend placing encrusting monti frags?

I understand that they need strong flow and good lighting, and obviously good stable water params. But as far as aquascaping goes, how do you recommend placing encrusting monti frags?

I stick mine on a separate fist sized rock (or whatever size rock you want) to keep them contained, and then place the rock somewhere suitable.

Awesome. Do you keep the frag plug on it and just let it encrust over top? Or do you remove it and attach directly to rock?

Depends on the frag I got. If it's encrusting a piece of rock and the plug, I just pop the piece of rock off and glue that. If it's just an encrusted plug, I cut the stem off the plug with a small bolt cutter and glue down the disk portion into a depression in the rock. Once it starts encrusting, there's no odd looking shape that way.

Leave it on the plug if it is encrusted.

Generally I try and pop them off of the plug if it’s not too far encrusted. That way you can try and avoid the funky looking plug shape and keep it more natural in appearance

For monti's I like to leave them on rocks that are like little islands in my tank. Rocks that are by them selfs so I can control how the spread. I've seen them completely take over corals when they grow
