How do you run your Kessil A160's

How long have you been running them at zero color?

Year and a half, the color channel has zero impact on coral growth and that is coming straight from kessil when I emailed them about 9 months ago. It's only for looks, if you don't believe me email kessil support they will tell you the same thing. Wish I kept the email lol

I'm not convinced that tuning the color doesn't change the spectrum. When you change from a more blue look to a more white look, there has to be incorporation of longer wavelengths (green, yellow, red- which seem to be less desirable for coral growth) to produce the visual change. You can see that in their graph. I'm not an expert, but I think it would be impossible to not change the spectrum while changing the appearance to the eye.

So, I do think that certain coral will thrive based on the amount of color used. In my anecdotal observation, I've seen many people having success with a more blue appearance. I think, in my experience, I bleached a colony of Zoas while trying to increase color (more white) while staying at the same intensity.

Email kessil they will tell you, I have had sps, lps, softies all thrive by using just the intensity channel. Only reason I have a zoa dominated tank is that I don't want to get into dosing lol, but the 3 Montis I have I have to cut every few months cause they grow so fast

I have the 160 and love it! It's on my cube as well! 10hrs of intensity peaking at 70% I brought it up this high over the course of a couple months! My carpet anemone loves it! When I first got it to now 4 months ago!

If your Kessil can keep a carpet anemone happy and healthy then you can grow any SPS you want!

You're right, it does change, but only slightly. As you turn "up" the color, you add a little green and red spectrum, but only a little. BRS covered the Kessil 360 and AP700 in there 52 weeks of reefing, specifically, the LED episode. There, they show the spectrum graph when you increase the color intensity and the difference when you lower the color.

Via Apex a360 & a160 over 24x24 cube never measured but I would guess about 10" above water. I have been trying to post monthly growth pics on my thread.

I'll say this for Kessil. I have a RSM S-400 11o gallon that came with a 10 bulb t5 canopy and I wanted to mod in 4 Kessil a80's into my 2 bulb mid section. I emailed Kessil in the morning with my tank specs and told them that I'll follow up later in the day with a phone call.

So I called later on in the day and they were ready. They got a Kessil engineer on the phone with me and he said as long as I ran 4 a80's and two t5's it would do the job, Well he was spot on and my corals including SPS have never been better.

Not only is Kessil prompt but they know there products capabilities. So now I have the Kessil shimmer with the Kessil logic but I get the t5 fill in for such and large tank. I have a red hot chilli pepper 20" down and it is exploding in growth and color.

I have a Bose Audio lifesyle system and they have never released there #'s either but it sure sounds good.

So, I've got a total of 60 watt's in Kessil power and two 39 watt t5's over my 11o and my corals are happy and my SPS are still encrusting and I got to keep my original RS canopy that I love, You can't see a stray wire anyway. It looks totally factory and I could not be more happy.

For $650 counting the 90 degree links and the Spectral Controller, you just can't beat the results and was totally worth the 7 hours it took to mod them inside my canopy.

My lights are about 4" about the water line and the Kessil's already have done the color mixing before the light passes through their special lenses.

I feed table raw table shrimp that I quarter and let him catch mysis I only feed maybe once a week

I run mine 0% color channel all intensity ramp to max 75%. My tank is all zoas few Montis

How long do u run the 75 percent intensity? 6 hours or 8?

12 hour cycle with three hour ramp up / down. At peak for 6 hours at 100% intensity and 50% color. 8 month old mixed reef with everything doing well.
