How do you test salt level?

"Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world..."
I adore anyone who can quote Yeats. :)

I use a refractometer but I have a hydrometer that I compare it to on occasion. I calibrate it about every other month just to make sure. It takes far less time to recalibrate it, than it does to test aquarium water for any test.

Thermometer and a co2 fire extinguisher and gloves.

Everything else just lacks the necessary feel of danger.

Ok just a refractometer. I do have an off brand salinity checker i use occasionally.

I just take a big swig of hot aquarium water, if you get the squirts then the salinitys too high. Or is it too low? Ugh, be back in 10-15 mins. Someone open a window.

There are threads on here. He even outlined the customer service responses and he said several other people have had very similar problems

I can’t say what the reefers will think, but for a FOWLR this is the quickest and easiest. I love mine, and even use it for my softy nano tank.

I wanted to be fancy and bought a refractometer this time. The thing needs to constantly be calibrated. It's a major pain. My instant ocean hydrometer never needs calibration and gives me a consistent reading every time which IMO is more important than giving a perfectly exact reading. I've compared the just calibrated refracto to the swing arm and the swing arm is only off by .001. Anyway, refracto stays in its case and the hydro gets used weekly.

Had a Milwaukee and then got the Hanna salinity/temp and now I won’t look at the Milwaukee since the switch. Hanna is more accurate and way faster just need a quick rinse when done for the day

Last time I set this tank up I got a Red Sea refractometer. So many problems with it constantly needing calibrated and the inconsistent readings with tons of people having the same problem. So which one is good

Plastic IO swing-arm. She ain’t pretty, but she works
