just out of curiosity, how do you go about treating a colony for this?

i don't have any reason to believe i have them, but sometimes i show some strange STN going on. so i was thinking about dipping the colonies in whatever you use to treat for AEFW to see if that helps to correct my problems.

i already treated in TMPCC but didn't see anything. and i've never seen anything that looks like an AEFW or eggs on any of my sps.

Surf are the bald spots throughout the colony or Random white spots from branch to branch?

like i said, its STN from the base up, no bare patches anywhere on the coral. i know what to look for with AEFW, and i know i don't have them.

all i'm asking is what do you use to treat them...lol

Dude there is a nice article in this months coral magazine about aefw's. But i can assure you that a very heavy iodine dip will stun the hell out of the worms and u can turkey baster them off very easily. I'm talking 40 drops of lugols in a 16 ounce cup, it basically paralyzes the worms. My sps had color lose for about an hour after a 10 minute dip in the solution but the polyps came right out that night. The worms just fall right off with a good shake or baster squirt. Just gotta keep an eye out for any egg hatchers.

The magazine article actually talked about learning to live with aefw's if you have them in your tank and some sucess with fish eating them if you blow them into the water column.

Al-fluke tab the colony in question in a white 5 gal bucket and use a power head to blow off any suspects, you'll either see them or not so you'll know. If you do have them, be sure to scrape off any eggs you see and break the branches apart if it's a tight colony in order to get all the eggs.

I was under the impression that levamisole was intended to treat monti nudibranchs, I didn't realize it worked against AEFW. I've also heard that it's incredible harsh (from Marvin).

What about Flatworm Exit? I've heard a lot of people mention that one in the past.

FWE stunds them but will not kill them. Yes, levamisole is harsh, but does work well. I used it for the first two weeks when i treated. Back then it was hard to get TMPCC. I use TMPCC for all new dips. If i were to treat I woul use TMPCC. Let's just hope that I never have to do that again.

TMPCC is my prophylactic treatment of choice with all new corals. I use 1.5x - 2x the recommended amount.

I'm probably going to start including Furan-2 as a prophylactic treatment for zoas.

I tried Levamisole two years ago when I had AEFW's and had tons of losses. Not many had posted experiences, so maybe it was ignorance to the process. I did every acro in my tank (60-70 small colonies), some of which was still connected to rock. I figured the rock was taking in the medicine and slowly releasing it throughout the week or somethign along those lines. What the skimmer pulled out looked like slimmy goo (thick and slimy). I lost ~85-90% of what I had, but haven't seen a single AEFW from the second treatment on. I use TMPCC and Interceptor for all incoming now. So far so good.
