How do zoas look like when they're feeding?

Is it normal for them to close up when I use a syringe to target feed them?

yes palys allways close when they eating some meate food

I notice when my zoas are in "feeding mode" there skirts look raised and when I feed them I try to not shoot so much food and scare them but let the food drop on to them and the close up slowly

Pellet food like new life spectrum works great just drop it down on them. My zoas, pali, lps, and rics /yumas love it.
