How does a fish disappear?

Had a yellow assessor. Made it through QT was in my display tank for about a week was doing well now just disappears! Looked in sump and overflow. He's gone. Other fish flame hawk firefish and anthias.

That happened to me once, just disappeared. I'm guessing fish may have died and got consumed by cuc before you noticed

Try to Keep looking. My Yellow assesor was missing for about two months and I finally found him surfaced on one of the chambers of IM 40.
I thought my Emerald crabs got him.

I have had a few fish disappear completely! I have no idea where they are Lost 2 chromas and a flasher wrasse. All at different times. One day they are here and a few hours or overnight they are gone. Could something like hermit crabs or snails eat them that fast?

Glad to hear it. I think most of us have had fish disappear. I've had a Chromis disappear from my IM10 completely. The only thing I can assume is that he jumped and one of the cats got him.

I've had 4 fish disappear on me(blue spot jawfish, tanaka pygmy wrasses,sandsifting goby and leopard wrasse),not all at once. I looked everywhere and can't find them. I also had lid on my tank. It's kinda frustrating cuz I can't figure out how they just disappear like magic"poof" and gone.

Most of those dish are sand dwellers and could possibly hide in the sand and pass away or even get stuck by a falling rock once they have dug underneath. Also if a fish dies in a saltwater tank with a clean up crew you can only see their remains for a day or maybe two at most. Sorry for your loss.

Natural processes will reduce a small fish carcass to nothing in a surprisingly short amount of time. Most of the tank CUC is stuff that you don't specifically add.
