How does everyone vaccum there sand bed??

The best thing about the vortechs is thr undertow...it literally lifts detrious layer from everything and even between cracks of rocks.

I don't vacuum. I used to years ago and I'm not sure why I stopped. It hasn't made a difference one way or the other for me, because I honestly haven't thought about it since. I've added sand here and there over the years, as it wears away some.

You can't. I'd siphon but it would pull too much sand with it, I had to add 5lbs of new sand because of this.. What I do is just stir the sb and blast the rocks with a turkey baster to get the gunk suspended before a water change. Right now I'm battling a Cyano problem on the sb. Since I can't use a siphon I gently stir the sb to get the Cyano mats to clump together so I can suck them out with the turkey baster.

I feel a cucumber does a better job than a goby
Cucumbers can nuke a tank tho...

I stir the sand a little bit at a time with an older plastic scaper with a handle I personally have never siphoned the sand I have wrasses and cucumbers that do most for me

This guy .....my sea biscut makes trails everynight. Cleans not only the top of my sand but also cruises the whole depth of my sand bed. Plus it is just too cool!

TRIBBLES! Im not at that episode yet, one of my favorites. Im watching all of star trek in order. Dont know if i can make it through Voyager tho. I was all about next generation when it came out, Deep Space Nine was ok but not as good, then there was Voyager...fail. I lost all interest in the show until just recently. I guess enough time has passed the the wounds are somewhat healed. Haha!

Sand should be cleaned regularly (except DSB, these get replaced when they crash). Animals that stir up the sand bed regularly can be great but still excrete waste. If sand is left to sponge up nutrients you will run into issues over time, commonly called "old tank syndrome".
