How does one switch old tank into a new tank ?

So I am going to upgrade my 75 gallon tank to a bigger tank. What is the best way to get all my corals and fish into the new tank? I have a smaller 30 gallon QT tank I can use to house things for a while, but I want to use most of my old tank rock and sand because its mine and free of unknowns. I have Marine Pure blocks in my sump which will go in the new sump as well. What is the process

If you can, set the new tank up first. Add any new rock your going to use and a couple pieces from the old tank. Let it cycle lights off for a while. Think BRS/WWC hybrid tank cycle. Use some old tank water during set up. After your cycle transfer remaining livestock. Would be my preferred way.

The quick way is use all the water you can from the 75, and transfer everything over you want. However I would clean the sand before transfer. A little bottled bacteria of choice will help. This method will come with risks.

Watch this. Lots of great info. However, using Your old rock and transferring will result in a less severe cycle with reduced time. Think of the big picture what you want for your tank in a year or longer. Do a build thread and tag me so I can see this sweet new tank.. transfer will result in a short cycle maybe a week and a half?? Not sure.

I redid one of my tanks back in January. I have a large ice chest. I drained some tank water into it then placed everything in it and filled the rest of the way with more tank water. I put a powerhead in it. I wanted more like shelf rock look so I cut my large rocks in half to give a flat side. I took the tank outside and scrubbed the tank clean. Once I reset it up the rock was white where it was cut. Within about a month the rock was 50% covered and the bottom was 80% covered in coriline algae. At 3 month now the coralline algae in so think on the bottom it is breaking off in sheets and the back is 95% covered. I had taken all substrate out. The rock had been in the tank for about 10 years. When I cut it in half there was large bristle wormed in the middle. A haven't seen any in the tank. Not sure what made to tank bounce back so quick but it wasn't lost a coral yet. It did get a green algae film on the back for around a month but it not almost solid purple.
