Hey guys, I am sad to say I have to break down my 50 gallon breeder tank very soon because of going to school. I am wondering how does someone break down a tank and put a price on the items and stock? I just need help on how to do this the right way and make the process easy. If someone has posted a topic like this before please point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

First determine if you want to try to sell the entire system or piece it out. In either case, I don't think there is a magic formula to determine pricing. You'll have to do a little research for your market area and see what price you're willing to sell it for that someone will be willing to pay. If you're willing to ship the "shipable" equipment, it will open your market greatly.

In any case, and in my opinion, get yourself a box of Kleenex to wipe the tears because you're not going to get anywhere near what you paid for most of the items, assuming you bought them new. Good luck selling and good luck at school.

I believe the question what I was asking is where does one start at?

edit:
Sorry about the whole confusion the title and what I first posted is very misleading.

Each time I broke down, I first pieced out the corals (where you may get some profit, if you're lucky-I usually didn't...) then equipment and tank. I never tried to sell an entire set up, simply due to noone really buying that often up here, without it taking 5+ months of waiting for a buyer

I would start with looking for the equipment you have on the sale boards see what it's going for and the condition. Price your similarly, accounting for best/worse condition of your item. Try to find multiple listings per item if possible.

That's what I have done. And you can always come down but you won't really be able to raise the price once posted.

If you want to sell it fast, cut the total cost in half and sell at that price.
