It was only one box of salt, but I was amused that the box only made it onto the very edge of the porch. Normally all of the packages are put by the door, but this wasn't even close. I mean this was only one box. :)

I know this isn't just me and others have commented on it in the past, but how does your delivery person react to your salt deliveries?

I get salt is heavy but it drives me nuts that I can guarantee that any particular side will be facing up other than the one that says THIS SIDE UP when getting live things delivered. Even sometimes to the point that it looks unnatural to have the box laying the way it is. Nothing has died on me or broken yet but I’ve ordered some expensive things and delicate things and I always cringe to see how I’m going to find the box

I am lucky and have awesome delivery drivers. They always bring the package up to the door for me, the one time I ordered 3 boxes of 200G salt and they left it at the end of the walkway. Cant blame them as those are heavy! As for delivering live stuff I never worry about it and haven’t had a bad experience yet

i dont see or talk to them but I'm sure they say couple of vocabulary words when they pick those 56lb boxes of reef crystals to carry to my front door

When I order salt usually multiple boxes/buckets at a time, my UPS driver always drops them at my garage door, and he uses a hand truck.
The amazon guys seem to like to carry them to the front door.

What you getting from Amazon? It's not instant ocean, couse they are out/stopped stocking it

I got a large delivery of the rock once. I figured they would be prepared to mechanically handle the weight, the 5’3” UPS woman figured differently, and I ended up getting a free work out with the late delivery! What a deal!

:rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:That poor guy...:face-with-hand-over-mouth:...The buckets in a box do go THUMP on the front porch...;):)

Last time I ordered Reef Crystals from amazon, I got 10 buckets.
Still have 4.
I wasn't aware they don't sell it anymore.

Sometimes they will ask what I have going on! HA!

I got the hint after they placed everything up against my security door (an outer screened second front door that opens outward). I couldn’t open the door to get out. I had to go through the garage and to my front porch to move all the boxes so that I could open the door and bring things inside. They know I’m disabled so it must have really ticked them off for them to do that to me. I feel bad but I don’t at the same time. They should enact more stringent weight limits if it’s a problem. Since that incident I order bags of io salt instead of boxes from chewy and have different auto ship days for salt, dog and cat food and litter. I also switched to ordering lighter bags of food and litter more frequently, even though it costs more. Chewy only puts two fifty gallon io salt bags in each box as opposed to the four that come in a io box. So all in all I get many smaller deliveries spread out as opposed to one rather large delivery. Since i can no longer drive I totally rely on deliveries and while I’m not thrilled with not saving by ordering in bulk, I appreciate my delivery people. Drivers switch all the time and ironically (and no offense or sexism is meant by this) the all of five foot tall, maybe hundred pound younger woman driver handles the heavier items without breaking a sweat whereas the almost seven foot, three hundred pound, probably ex linebacker man huffs, puffs, and cusses up a storm.

i'm sorry, it's just not right for you to order lighter bags that cost you more money just so you don't tick off the delivery people. They get paid good money (by YOUR purchases, I might add) to do a job correctly. If they do not wish to do said job, let them seek employment elsewhere.

Just my 2 cents

Our normal FedEx, UPS and USPS drivers are all great. They always place items next to our front door under our covered porch. It helps to leave them a small gift during the holidays and cold drinks in a cooler every so often. I can tell before I check our cameras when we have a substitute driver on our route each time, they just leave packages on the ground outside the garage so they don't have to walk at all.

last few times I’ve ordered salt I would have to go and pick up from the post office lol it doesn’t make it to my house lol

I think the carrier should give the drivers proper equipment to carry heavy loads but using a dolly takes longer so half of them wouldn’t use it anyway. And how do you dolly up stairs like every house on my block has?

I’ve pivoted to just buying at LFS. It’s the same price and my blue buckets don’t show up broken.

my fedex guy hates me, between fish and chewy orders, pretty much everything super heavy. I also live on a second floor condo and Ive seen him toss the packages from the stairs lol. Generally its just cat litter and maybe salt, so I don't mind terribly much. I definitely try to order ups overnight for livestock...

Once I found the box in the middle of the driveway on its side with one end busted out. It looked like it had been literally kicked off the back of the truck :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:. Thankfully it was a bucket of reef crystals so no harm was done, but clearly the delivery guy just wasn't feeling it that day...

My UPS driver is usually a female deliver person, so she would drop it right by the driveway and the lawn after I told her once they can leave it there and I'll get it in a bit later. Other time, just by garage door instead of the main entrance.

The delivery guy placed it on our front porch. One box stayed there while my wife brought the other box inside. I had ordered 40#s of dry sand.
