The Montipora “Mystic Sunset” is getting out of control and has spread to an adjacent rock covered in zoas (I should have spaced them out more earlier on). How much trouble are these zoas in?

That monti is on a mission to conquer your whole tank lol.
Right! And that’s not even all of it . It’s forming a lip around the bottom of the rock and over the sandbed. Luckily the other corals around and above it are strong enough to stick it back.

I love some encrusting montis but omg they can get out of control, and that's a perfect example. Looks beautiful and healthy tho!

It was my first SPS that I acquired about a year and half ago (started as a 1” plug). I’ve got to find a spot to isolate it’s rock from the rest of the rock in the tank.

I just gave a frag of that to my LFS. It was barely hanging on in my tank and I’m hoping they can get it happier and sell it. I don’t think my lights can grow SPS.

I ended up selling the whole colony to a local guy and saved the zoas. The monti was just determined to take over everything and was reach for the base rock. Didn’t want to jeopardize all the acros so it was time to just let it go. I’m happier as it freed up some sand bed space for more LPS.
