How dose this go to geather?

I am getting started with my first tank since high school. someone gave me this filter and I'm not sure how to assemble it . Has anyone ever seen filter like this before. Is there a place where I can find maybe a picture of one set up or something. I can't afford to buy new one just yet I just bought a brand new power head to go with this one

That dosent look like a filter , it's an over flow box the pipes siphon the water out to a sump or filter

I took another look at your pic it's hard to tell. But the back piece is it two compartment box ? If so it goes on the outside of the tank the over flow box goes inside the water runs through the weir one pipe siphons it out of the overflow box into the one compartment outside the tank were you will have filter media then it flows to the other side where the return pump is housed then it pumps the water back into the aquarium
