Yes we have very hard water here. Our water for the city comes right out of the Rio Grande. Then of course it’s treated and all that but still pretty high. Not sure if I want to go with a softener will have to discuss that with the boss lady.
thank every for the reply’s

I have a whole house sediment filter, carbon filter 5 feet tall, and watersoftener. I can go without sediment and carbon filters for my RO/DI.

Hey Quietman. Think your RO membrane is going bad? My TDS defore is 576 and after down to 7ppm, I also have a dual RO membrane setup.
Just have a single here, with high TDS (>300) dual isn't optimal due to waste from first being too high. The RO membranes from Koolermax is 95-98% so if I'm at 400 as long as it's <20ppm I'm a happy camper. Plus I have 80 input pressure from city so it's running really well I think. Mine is just over 2 years and will be due in the next several months. I'll get it when I next order my carbon/sediment in a few months (I replace those every 6-9 months).

My city water has a TDS around 800-900, much higher than you. Been running mine for close to 3 years now. After water softener I have 546 TDS to RO, out of membrane the TDS is 7.

just curious cause thats what my tds is out of my faucet..hows your di consumption??i have the 7 stage pro water saver 150 gpd from brs..im cookin through di resin and its even the one they recomended

With TDS as high as yours the water saver will make the tds into the di resin higher.

Correct me if I’m wrong here guys, but you want as low a TDS as possible before running it through the DI chamber, correct? Wouldn’t adding another sediment filter and carbon filter chambers help with bringing down the TDS before hitting the membrane(s) which should bring the TDS lower to the DI? This would only be necessary if your input TDS is high and your burning through DI quickly. I, personally, only have about 160-170 TDS from the tap, so my 4 stage is more than enough. In fact, I still haven’t gotten any color change out of the DI resin yet, but I only just got the RODI unit last month. I would like to add another membrane to help with the reduction of waste water but my pressure coming in is only 60 so I’d need a pump to increase the pressure needed for an additional membrane. I’ll hold off for now. Right now I just fill my washing machine with the waste water so at least I’m washing clothes with it.

I was burning DI much faster than I wanted - and for me - if the tds is 1 after the DI... my acros start dying. So, I did the following.
1. use the pro DI resin from Bulkreef - it has two parts one anionic, and one cationic. By separating the cans and looking at what was getting depleted, I found out that it was all anionic. I then added another anionic chamber (two anionic, one cationic). The cationinc lasts forever, so I monitor the tds coming out of the first anionic can. When it bumps, I pull it and repack it, and rotate the anionic cans.
2. I learned to properly pack in the resin by patiently tapping and tapping it down
3. I run my RO on a timer to make all my RO/DI in one continuous batch, to avoid the constant on off cycling.
4. I upgraded my membranes from 97% rejection to the highest I could get (98-99%), and also added a booster pump.
5. Then, I rebuilt the entire thing with big blue cans. I am hoping I can go a year or longer without changing any resin (and my system is pretty massive).
6. I also use a water saver two membrane setup - but, that would be counterproductive in the OP's situation.

Sediment and carbon filter has no affect on TDS from what I have seen.

My TDS of 7 I get 6 months out of my anionic resin, 20 gallons per week, 120 gallons total. The cationic I get about a year so maybe 240 gallons, the mixed bed I change every year regardless. I'm okay with that.

Do you have separate resins? Cation, Anionic and mixed bed each in their own filter housing.

sure do!!!cation still looks brand new no color change..anionic is orange halfway up the filter and ive only ran 60 gallons threough it so far..mixed resin still looks new as well
