How exactly does a Jedi mind trick grow?

seems to me that they encrust then plate after getting to the edge of a rock. But what happens if you mount it vertically? Would it encrust up and down the rock?

I got a corner off someone's plate, and pointed it upwards, it's growing up the rock right now towards the lights. It's got to plate or go around the rock somehow. I can take a picture tomorrow if you want.

This was a month ago, I'll try and grab another tomorrow, but it's grown basically up the rock and outwards

It's an encrusting Monti but does like to plate a short distance out. Mine's plating @ 1/2" after encrusting the 2" plate. I have another that is just encrusting with no plating.

It may plate out yes but it will encrust a lot as well. The best advice i can give you, is to mount it to a separate rock and place it on the sand bed. Otherwise it will tend to take over the aquacscape eventually.

Not a great picture, but this is one month later. Camera phone doesn't do justice to the electric blue edges. This is under basically 12k like light at the end of the day (just 2 bulbs).

It's a super blue picture, but you can see both the encrusting and plating in this picture. The ricordia on the left stopped the growth that direction, but it went up and over the Oregon Mummy Eye chalice on the right. That will be trimmed soon. You can also see a plating "leaf" coming toward the front on the top right.
