how far are your lights off your tank

Ecotechs with RMS mount are 9" off water line.

Maxspect Ethereals about 10" off the water.

Three black box LED's without lenses.....13 inches off the water to the face of the fixture.

Kessil 360WEs 5" off the water.

ATI T5 fixture 17 inches off the water. I am about to lower it 5" to see how it goes.

I have two Kessil AP700s over my 180. They are 9" over the tank

I think I'm going to put one of these on my 90 when I build it. 3'x2'x2' cube 90, not the 4' 90. Does 9" give you good spread? I read 5-7" was optimal for a 36" area.

I know t5 can pack a punch but they don't have much as penetration like LEDs. 6-9" is a good start.

Thanks. Reeflex, I'm glad CO started this. I moved them down 5 inches .Had been meaning to do it but Ya know. The T5's were pretty strong. I have them set at 75 percent. I didn't break out the par meter for comparison, but hey maybe somebody will start a thread & remind me later !

At least 7. Honestly the higher you can mount them without spill is better. You wont have any problem getting enough light at the bottom but mounting it higher softens the shadows and distributes the light around even better. 5" seems too low to me. But I say try them all and see what best fits you and the system.
