How common is it to notice a tiny colony of an SPS BESIDES birdsnest to suddenly spring up a foot or two away from the parent colony?

Birdnest nest i have noticed can jump all over the tank but now i have a pocillopora doing it.

It's about 2.5 years in with my reef and i can already see a time in the near future where i sm going to need to invest in a nice frag kit and very likely a frag tank to start growing off spring colonies.....probably inside 2 years. I am going to start adding more blue and purple torts as that has historically been difficult but now i see growth there also.

All under LEDs no less.....

Poci spawn is quite common... it can spawn and take over an entire tank. This is why people have no-poci policies in their tanks. I have had acropora spawn, but nothing ever comes of it.

Pocis are terrible weeds!
Seriously, devil stuff...
People have torn down systems because of them

Would you consider it a nuisance sps?

My rocks aren't glued in they are just stacked, so there isn't much that a little ripping and pulling and replacing of rock can't fix.

One persons weeds are another persons flowers.

I have a no MBP&S policy in any of my tanks, except for Leng Sy cap. Not nearly everybody views these as weeds like I do. Mostly, I hate having to cut them out every few years.

This is all up to you.

my poci spawned a few months ago, and i have probably 20 new spots i can see where they are sprouting up, on is already a frag size.

Seems like a good way to start a frag tank and open up a side buisness to help support the hobby....

I have the perfect spot in mind.....

id be happy to ship you whatever youd like ;)

Whelp, i now count 5 colonies of this poci in my tank. Some of them are 6 feet away from the parent colony and managing to keep cyano from even growing over them.

How toxic are they when they grow up and physically contact neighbors?

Pocillopora will be on my list to have. i'm all for easy to care for sps :)

I love Pocis. The really good looking ones never spread, naturally.

Our system is 4 tanks all feeding to one sump. A green poccilipora sprouted in one of the tanks, where the parent was not. It spawned and went through the sump and filter socks before landing.
Recently a torch did the same thing. There is only 1 torch in my system, but now there are 6 baby torches in one of the tanks where there had never been a torch. Interestingly they are not all the same colour. Or the colour of what the parent.
This is one of the babies. No it is not majano.
