I was thinking about getting some utter chaos palys and I was wondering if I should seperate them from the main rock structure and put them on and island or just place them onto the main rock structure

Utter chaos were the fastest growers I've had in my tank. Beautiful splash of color!

I've had other palys that grow faster, but just like almost any paly or even zoas, they spread over time and can cover most anything. If you're new to this they may seem to take forever to grow, but if you've been around for more than a few years, you'll think they multiply overnight! LOL! And the bigger the colony the faster they multiply. It's almost an exponential thing. If you don't want them spreading onto rock that is for other corals, keep them on their own rock (as you suggested).

I’ve been in the hobby for about 3 years and I couldn’t keep zoas or palys in my old tank because I had a crab that kept eating them so I just gave up on them but now I have a new tank I’m going to give them another shot

I know exactly where you are coming from. I had a Coral Beauty that ate my zoas so I didn't keep any. That tank broke and I lost almost everything. So my new 40g cube is all about the corals (mostly zoas and rock flower anemones) that fluoresce well under blue leds! I love this tank!
