I have a slight ich outbreak in my 60g tank. I have a lot of fish and I believe ich came from recent corals combined with the summer to winter 3 degree tank change. How fast should I raise the temp from 77 F to 80F? How high should I go for ich.

I moved it from 77 to 79 to start.

Unfortunately temp doesn't help for ich in saltwater (technically crypto). Freshwater ich is easily killed with high temps and salt addition. Marine crpyto requires medications (copper or chloroquine phosphate) in a quarantine tank.

You'll kill your corals and fish faster then killing marine ich(crypto) with increasing temps.

You might want to have a read through this thread and decide for yourself if you can live with it, or cure it.

Ah ok. I am going to raise it anyway to 79 will that 2 degree increase be a problem or no. I am raising it just because I planned to for a while either way.

Forget the temps with ICH. Not gonna help much. Start looking at treatments or a Quarantine tank. Dose with copper etc. Unfortunately lol the stuff that kills ich isnt reef safe. But their are a number of things you can do. Keep the fish healthy. ICH in a tank isn’t always detrimental to fish. Most fish succumb to it when they are stressed or sick.

2 degrees won’t hurt unless the tanks brand new.

2 degrees won’t hurt unless the tanks brand new. Plus your still with in a decent temp range for the reef. But like others of said I worked for Petco as an Aquatics Specialist years ago. Freshwater ICH is easy. You can dose the tank or shut the flow down from the sumps and go bubbler with a heater to heat one bank or tank up etc. Saltwater isn’t going to help as you’ll kill the corals. Freshwater dips I have done. You need to keep the fish healthy. QT the ones that got it. Dose with copper. Then start thinking about ICH management. Since once a reef has ICH it will always have ICH but many fish will not succumb to it. Trust me.

Gradually -fish are already stressed

It’s just something we have to deal with. In a reef tank I had some fish get it and others never. Many of them beat it and never got it again.
I turned the heater up 2 degrees I mean that can't kill a reef.
Your good. The fish may prefer it at 79.

Yup I think your good with 2 degrees. It’ll take time anyways. Fish will probably prefer 79. Keywords they are already stressed and that you need to avoid

Your going to be dealing with ICH from hear on out. We all do eventually. If you get a fish that gets it real bad you need to QT and dose. I don’t recommend freshwater dips. I have done them. Sometimes success and sometimes unsuccessfully. I’m hoping your catching it early. But ICH in a reef will always be in a reef. Just run the course use all the advice and everything should work out.

Fish generally succumb to ICH when they are stressed usually they’ll avoid it if happy.

Sorry, but raising the temperature by two degrees F. is only going to make the Cryptocaryon reproduce faster, like the others said, it isn't closely temperature related like FW ich is. The key is how many spots do the fish have? Cryptocaryon goes through geometric progression, and what you don't want to do is kick it into high gear with no meds in the water, right before the numbers are about to increase...if you see more than 15 spots on any one fish, you should get a QT ready and prepare to move all of the fish over and treat with copper.

Ok time to get the kole tang out as it is the only fish with more than 6 spots.

Just to be clear, as the disease progresses, you will likely need to move all of the fish to the QT.

I am aware I will get to it as soon as more than 1 qt is up as I do not have the space for all fish in my current qt.

I couldn't help but do some investigating. I see you have 16 fish in your 60 gallon. That is a lot. I have half that amount in my 220 for example. I think this is a reason your fish are stressed and have gotten sick.

Probably I just got ready to pull out a few and then boom ich. I was ready to downsize the fishload. I had to home a few (like 5) for my uncle and now it became a problem. Plus the chromis and tangs were always going to be pulled eventually anyway.
