How hard are leopard wrasses to keep

You can QT them. I did. Nothing goes in my DT without QT. Just let them eat brine shrimp for a few weeks, then 30 days of copper. They did fine.

IMO once they start eating perpared foods you’re golden. I had one I qted with a flame that was already eating well. She was eating in no time and haven’t had any issues at all.

No need to have full sand bed in ur qT or sump a small container with sand usually works fine for me.

Ordered 3 from LA...small females...one DOA...one looked rough and was having problems swimming.

Put them in a 10g QT with live rock and a Tupperware of sand. Started them off on live brine and weaned to frozen. Both still with me months later and have proven vary hardy.

They were scratching on rocks in the QT so glad I didn't put them in the DT like many advise. Treated them with prazipro and they went through a TTM eventually which they handled like champs. They didn't seem to stress easily once acclimated and ttm was a breeze for me.

One thing, they will be just fine with coarser sands as well as fine. I run only Tropic Eden Reef Flakes, which are quite large and I keep a Kuiters, Potters, and melagris leopard wrasse.

You’ll need to have sand in your sump, at least a 1” layer. They burrow into the sand to sleep and hide when scared, in an area with no sand they’ll seriously injure their mouths from trying to find a place to burrow
I have some spare sand left over that I could put in the sump but I’ll need to set up a refuge in first

Yes, as long as you don't have an exposed impeller from a skimmer pump or return pump, that should work fine.

Gregoyeah is right about the sand. A breakfast cereal bowl made of ceramic will do as a container.
I do think I would be able to place on it the sump because the bigger two compartments are taken by the skimmer and return pumps

Can i buy diy kits from brs even though I live in Australia

Not sure! Email them, as far as putting it in your sump! It will live but what’s the point in buying a beautiful fish and not being able to see it

Haha grasshopper, the sump or a proper qt are only for a successful transition to the DT.

Qt is of course standard, as far as putting in your sump for transition to dt, goodluck the will most likely jump out, get sucked into a pump or skimmer or hide so good you’ll need to rip apart sump to find them!

We discussed that earlier and what to avoid. The thing most do, and which fails miserably, is to put one right into the DT.

They need sand to sleep as they burrow, and not just coarse sans. That is too rough for them. The finer the sand, the better it is for them. I used to get oolitic sand and now have sugar fine

I found them to be easy once they start eating. Make sure tank is loaded with pods. Mine hunt all day

Hi,
I have a small female. I had no idea it was expert level!!! She has been one of my easiest fish!!! Put her in the tank, 0 hiding, she was out the same day, never messes around in the sand as far as I can tell, is always out and about, doesnt bother anyone and no one bothers her. One of my favorite fish in my tank.
