I have kept fresh water for 30 years and that became kind of boring. I talked my wife into a fish only salt water tank. That lasted about a month, then came the coral. What Salt Water has done for me is made fresh water new to me again as I went from standard aquariums, to more natural aquascape in those tanks giving me a whole new appreciation for them. It helped me up my game.
My two aquariums fantasies have been. Lagoon style SPS only and brackish mangrove swamp with a green spotted puffer. Long way of saying that I think the two types of systems, fresh and salt, are equally gorgeous when naturally filled out versus decorated.

Reefing has changed my lifestyle by teaching me patience. Nothing comes quick with salt water. It taught me patience and has reflected in my day to day living. I don’t feel like I need things instantly as much.

It has also helped my ADHD. I can’t sit still to watch tv. Being in nature and watching my tank are about the only things I feel I can do and truly relax. There is something about aquariums that are therapeutic and it’s been important to my overall lifestyle.

One key thing I have it highly automated. I did not want it to alter my life style much but instead enhance the life style I already had.

Reefing didn't change my lifestyle... NOT reefing would change my lifestyle (probably for the better... ha!).

Installing the whole home generator will give me more peace of mind when I travel. The controller and cameras DO help quite a bit though!

I’m curious how keeping a reef tank has changed your habits, routine, or lifestyle, besides just maybe having less money to spend?

Do you take shorter vacations? Plan trips around visiting aquariums or LFS’s? Have you had to change some things in your home? Have you developed other new interests that you were exposed to because of your tank? That sort of thing.

Maintaining a reef tank has indeed influenced my lifestyle.../ I've become more conscientious about time and expenses, which has led to shorter vacations. I've also explored aquariums and new interests related to marine life and ecosystem maintenance.

It's given me a hobby that I've always had inside me but now I can really enjoy the time spent caring for it. It also introduced me to writing and true paid research which was unexpected.

Electric bill is a little higher, few more things to do in the morning after coming home from work before the DT lights come on (I work graves), just a little more money to spend on things since I’m frugal LOL, more planning before vacations. That’s all I can think of at the moment.
