I was going to make a canopy for my 40 breeder that rests on top of the tank. However I'd need to make it strong enough to hold up a couple lights and tall enough that those lights are 10-12 inches above the water line. Would this likely end up being too heavy?
How heavy can a canopy be on a 40 breeder?

I don't think it needs to be insanely strong or heavy - certainly not going to cause the tank any problems.

I don't know specifically how heavy the tank can hold.... but the canopy on my 40b is not small. My LED fixture likes to be 18" off the water so my canopy is about 20 inches tall. Just choose 1x2 for the frame they are light. And choose the thinnest wood you can find to skin it. Mine although being large doesn't really weigh that much.

Thanks! The stand was my first ever wood working project! It was actually built from 80% scrap wood I had laying around at work. I was worried it would look like crap but it came out decent haha.
I forget what the thickness was on the canopy skin but it comes in small pre cut sections (I cant fit a whole sheet of ply wood in my car.) in the plywood aisle at home depot. They are very thin and very light.
