Hey guy i was wondering how high should anyone put a 6bulb t5 fixture. i have mine set at 29" from the bottom of the tank to the bottom of the fixture.its all individual reflectors..this is all sps corals, and the height of the tank is 10" from top to bottom.

specs : 18x18x10
Bulbs: front to back : b+, coral+, (sfiligoi deep blue, sfiligoi super actinic blue(will soon both be changed to ati's)), coral+, b+

anyone think 29 inches is to high?

Not really following you. Do you mean 29" minus the tanks 18 so 11" from the water surface.? If so yes, I would say its a bit high jmo

no no 10 inches is the height.. so its about 29inches minus 10. 19 inches..

That's a lot of light. I'm assuming it's a frag tank where you're looking for high PAR? I think for that depth (10"), I would say start off around 12" above the water surface. You can try it there and move it down slowly IF you need to. Start with shorter photo periods. Better to play it safe. Hope this helps.

What fixture? For one with a shield and fans the 29" from bottom of tank to light is perfect.
An uncooled light might need to be a bit lower.

its a display tank. i have it now set at 12 ". and thats the lowest i will go.

also its not cooled and it has a shield.

I had 6 overdriven T5's only 3-4" off the surface of my previous SPS dominant tank. 480W of T5 was ideal for all the SPS, which grew right up the surface of the water where the PAR #'s must have been off the charts.
