I live in San Francsico and we are dealing with our version of a heat wave. We’re a bit spoiled and most homes here don’t have air conditioning. Over the last couple days my tanks have been hovering around 84 F.
I have two mixed reefs. At what point should I be concerned about my livestock?

I would start being concerned because as water temperature increase the amount of dissolved oxygen and pH tends to decreases. It can also put stress on corals, fish and inverts, especially if it occurs rather quickly.
Try using a fan to blow across the water interface to aid in cooling of the water without the need for a chiller or a/c unit.

+1 on what @Coralreefer1 has said. My biggest concern would be the stress added to the fish as this can often lead to an outbreak of a disease. Also, something to consider if adding the fans does not cool the tank enough is floating big bags of ice.

Good luck!

Have you considered getting a chiller? It’s only June now, hard to tell what the weather will be in summer. You can try to find a used one. But if people in SF don’t need them, probably won’t find a used one easily.

It’s something I plan to look into when I move to Oakland. But on this side of the bay summers are usually very mild. We basically spend them in of blankets fog. For now, i’ll grab some fans off of Amazon
