How HOT is too HOT?

Conversely, have you verified the temp with another device? Maybe temp probe is kaplooie.

The heating system is offline. I am leaning towards the return pump.

If it IS a return pump issue, then your pump should be uncomfortably warm to the touch.

To increase tank temp 4* over 2 days would require a VERY hot spot on something as small as a return pump.

Well my return pump is pretty big. I just felt the body of it and it feels like it is the same temp as the water.

For softies and LPS 85-86 would not bother me... I ran one of my first nanos mid 80's every summer as I was in college in a cheap apartment that didn't have central air.

At my current residence, my central went out when I was out of town during a hot spell... my tank got to 92-93 degrees

I can say I had no fish loss, no soft coral loss, lost 2? LPS and almost all SPS. Overall I was surprised the tank was mostly just fine.

Good call. I did this the other day on another post about temp accuracy. I was told that kitchen thermometers do not need to be precise so I should trust the Apex. I just took this pic a moment ago.

So I am possibly freaking out based on false info. Like that has never happened before. Apex still says 82.

So your water temp is OK?? I’m confused.

I feel like I am seeing my tangs up at the surface more skimming the waterline. I see that as them lacking o2 but I am also a hypochondriac.

I doubt that is the issue then. It would require a VERY large heat source to overcome both natural equilibrium and push your tank to a temp 4 or 5 degrees above what the heaters are set at.

What kind of return pump are you running?
Do you have like a Hanna salinity checker with temp readout, I wouldn’t trust the kitchen stuff

Skimz L160 with an Askol motor block.

Valid point. Split the difference?
There’s a half a degree diff between them so pretty close. Where the Apex is saying it’s 4 degrees hotter. That’s a pretty big diff. I’d go with the kitchen ones.
