I am looking at purchasing a Sony mirrorless camera.

I am looking at either the Sony 6400 or the older Sony A7 IIk.

They come out to roughly the same price. For reefkeeping photography does it make sense to get the newer APS-C sensor or the older higher end full frame?

It doesn’t matter. And if you use APS-C lenses on a full frame it will auto crop to the smaller APS-C size.
The 6400 is a great camera body for the cost. It’s what I recommend to people looking for a good camera without spending the bigger bucks.

Depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. I own both APS-C and full frame Sony cameras. In the long run, the 6400 is going to be cheaper for you once you start factoring in lenses. My favorite camera is still my old a6000... I use that more than all the other cameras combined.
