How important is the 10x flow recommendation For triton method

I am having a new custom tank 60.5 x 30.5 x 25 made. It is planned to have internal overflow 3 1 inch drains 2 3/4 inch returns. I would like to run triton method on this tank for which there is a 10x flow recommendation through the sump. With 1 inch drains I’ll be short of the 10x flow recommended. I can upsize the drains and returns to achieve the 10x flow recommended but it comes at a cost of a longer internal overflow box. Not really sure if it’s necessary and I am not really interested in losing the extra 3-4 inches if I don’t have to. Any suggestions or thoughts on this question are much appreciated and thanks in advance.

You can do less and get away with it .. it is after all , a recommendation.. so if your close enough .. many people do it with less !!!

It shouldn't be a problem IMO. We do so at work, big tanks with under dimensioned overflows, and they work fine with the Triton method.
