How is your UV sterilizer plumbed to your system?

To you folks running UV sterilization. Do you have it plumbed to your main return pump or a separate pump? Please feel free to elaborate on your systems.
 
Manifold off the main return pump. Its one of the 3 returns going back into the tank. I do have a very large return pump.
 
I have it plumbed to one of my drains to the sump. No need to pay extra for an extra pump or more electricity to run it.

I purposely plumbed my UV to one of the drains so that I can get less water flowing through it to kill parasites. I run ~500 gallons/hr through an AquaUV 40W. It is rated higher than I want to kill parasites and bacteria as much as I can. My return pump is about ~1000 gallons/hr.

Where do you have the water dump into after passing through the UV ?
 
Separate pump feeding my UV filters, got.two 39 whatts UV plumbed in series fed by a single 1000 lph pump.delivering around half.of the rating after head loss and another 1000 lph pump feeding my DD 80 whatts U
 
Mine is plumbed as a closed loop. I have a pump next to my skimmer that draws in water, pumps it to the UV, then returns it to the return chamber next to my return pump. Very slow flow through the body of the UV. As I've said before, my tank was cured of ich because of this set up. It's very oversized.
 
Mine is connected to my return, all return water goes through it. Aqua Ultraviolet recommended this with their explanation that it's more effective to have all the water go through it multiple times vs. some of the water with longer contact time.

I have mine plumbed with it own pump. The pump is located in the sump in the same chamber where the filter socks are located. The return is located in the next chamber in the sump adjacent to the filter dock return chamber.

I have the smart ig 40w and it’s reccomended flow through rate is 185-230gph....


I run mine off a dedicated maxi jet so I don’t have to mess with manifolds and having a flow censor to know what flow rate I’m at. It’s set and forget
 
I have a (40w) sitting on top of main display and plumbed to take from & return water to DT.
 
I just have a 24w Green Killing Machine, which has its own pump, in the sump of my Reefer 350. I’m more using it for super clear water and it works great for that.
 
It's own small pump and right back into the sump. I am running a 35watt on my 93 cube and a measured 120gph.

I'm considering adding one to my system. I was thinking about removing one of my reactors from my manifold and connecting a pentair UV to it. Question- since this is in my RSR425xl sump area I don't have much room to run it horizontal. If I install it vertically, the lower part (inflow, non electrical part) would be submerged. Is this a problem? I can't seem to find the answer in any of the documentation. Thanks
 
The most efficient way is to plumb in after your filter socks, roller filter, skimmer etc. Particulates in the water will reduce the light penetration. I installed my 90 watt Lifegard Aquatics Pro Max on my return line. My return pipe size is 1". I use a 2" reducer going into and out of the Sterilizer. I am running 100% of the return through the Sterilizer. I have a Neptune flow meter right after the Sterilizer so I know what the flow through it is. I can adjust the DC return pump or use a ball valve to achieve the proper flow. I also mounted it vertically as I have the room behind the tank.
