I’ve got 2 messes on my hands and the same question for each: how long should I observe the fish once treatment is done to be sure fish are disease free? I should mention DT is going fallow for over 76 days.

Mess 1
3 fish in copper recovering from Velvet. Observe 30 days after copper fully removed? More? Less?

Mess 2
Royal Gramma in hypo recovering from Flukes. Should I also treat w Prazi once hypo done? How long should I observe that he’s healthy before adding him to rest of fish?

TIA

I do 14 full days in non medicated water myself.

Awesome. How’d u get to be so smart?

From a lot of failures and this forum! But I still manage to learn something new everyday.

Add a Black Molly(acclimated) to the post treatment tank and let it show you if all parasites are dead.

I’ve read that on here. Would I have to qt the molly or not? Because it’s going from fresh to saltwater. Would illnesses be transferable? Also, any advice on how to do the conversion? I

Sooo Prazi after hypo or observe? Any personal success treating flukes w hypo? I wanna get this guy in w other fish as soon as it’s safe to do so. He’s been traumatized and spends all day hiding in a hole in his depressing little bb treatment tank. Breaks my heart.

Freshwater fish use saltwater like we use freshwater to kill parasites so no worries there. you just acclimate the molly and put him in the QT. Because the molly has no immunity at all to saltwater parasites it will get sick rather quickly and you’ll know.

If you are successful with hypo you shouldn’t need prazi as a properly performed hypo period is more effective against flukes than Prazi is IMO. You just have to be 100% sure your hypo was solid. I would still observe for 14 days or so the mollie.

Hypo rock solid. Testing salinity twice daily.
Plus I brought it to 0.009 instead of the required 0.011. Figure if fish can do 30 days at 0.009 for ich, they can do 7 days for flukes :) so, that’s what I’ll do then. Getting conflicting info on how quickly to raise/drop salinity. One article said to go slow over a week, 1 said to do it in 2 days? I took a week. But how fast should I raise it? Any idea?

I assume I can treat molly w same meds if molly gets sick? I’d hate to sacrifice 1 fish for another

Not really, the molly probably wouldn’t be able to be saved as they have no immunity and if there is a parasite in the tank it will completely take the mollie over.

Dropping can be a lot faster than raising, I would take a solid week to raise it back up(a few extra days won’t hurt).
