How long can chaeto survive freshwater dip?

Just got some chaeto and I see some vermitid snails in it. Currently have it in freshwater to kill the snails and any other hitchhikers, how long can I keep it in the FW without worrying about it dying?

I've read some people do 10 and even up to 30min dips but.... If you are seeing stuff you don't want I would personally throw it out
