How long can I leave my lights off?

29g biocube and I have the lights off to get my water temperature down so is it safe?

What is your water temp? I think you should be fine up to 3 days.

I would take a bottle and fill it 3/4 of the way full with RO/DI water and freeze it. Then put it in the tank to bring the temp down.

It's 81 but it was at 78. Just don't want it to tise

I typically don't worry till it gets up to about 84. It's good to have your setup accustomed to higher temps.

I believe so, just in case you do have an unexpected spike while you are away and can't do anything about it.

If you think about it, in the wild the temps can vary from day to day or even hour to hour, depending on water depth, cloud cover, and weather conditions.

I have a 29g biocube and had to unplug the heater because I have 3pumps in the back that are keeping the tank between 78 & 80.

What is going to happen when the lights go back on? The temp will probably rise again. If you are concerned about keeping the temp down, I would look to finding more permanent cooling options such as adding a fan or even a chiller.

Where would you put the fan though, I have a lid for the tank

Get rid of the lid.
PUt a fan in the back blowing across the water surface. If its a cube, you'd have to cut a hole in the back to mount the fan.

I turned it off. The lights idk they came with the biocube

Looks like some good temporary fixes, however lets look at the root of the cause.

1. Is you tank in direct sunlight?
2. Do you have a heater stuck on?
3. Are the fans working properly in the hood?

You can always upgrade the fans in the hood for larger quieter ones. The one thing I would not recommend is removing the top, it tripples the evaporation of the water for some reason.
