It's ammonia so buy salifert not the cheap kits, and do these tests IMO The actual water they sat in The water from them sitting in a bucket with power head and heater after a couple days Then one you break in half, put in clean circulated water and test next day You would be on an ammonia hunt to see what it takes to get some The bacteria will not die at all, it's the other life forms which ranges among rocks but the test is always the same, free ammonia
