How long can live rock sit stagnant

Moved houses mid build and my live rock got forgotten and has been sitting in saltwater for three months. Can i just throw it in the tank and continue my cycle?

no I would recure it

bacteria will survive anywhere that stayed wet even with considerable salinity swing, but there w be too much decay and waste to start new

first test is, break one open, note the insides and extrapolate to the rest. possibly better to fully restart, but savable depending on details

Would it be ok for like a week still submerged in water never out of the tank it was in?

With no water movement, there is going to be die off

We do have specific tests to tell that's for sure. It's ammonia so buy salifert not the cheap kits, and do these tests IMO

The actual water they sat in

The water from them sitting in a bucket with power head and heater after a couple days


Then one you break in half, put in clean circulated water and test next day


You would be on an ammonia hunt to see what it takes to get some

The bacteria will not die at all, it's the other life forms which ranges among rocks but the test is always the same, free ammonia

SDifferent but do you think letting my tank sit with water/sand and no flow for 24 hours will be bad
