How long can my canister filter go without power?

We are having a major storm in Florida and the power is out. I have a 40 gallon tank with 2 battery powered bubblers running for the moment. How long can the canister filter go without power? Can it harm my tank when the power comes back on if the bacteria starts to die?

The risk isn’t bacteria die off but hydrogen sulfide. I would open the canister filter before running it once power is restored. If it smells like rotten eggs you should clean before using.

The power was only out about 6 hours. All seems well. No rotten egg smell. Fish all seem happy.
