How long before your cloud went away? I have a 40g and kept the filter running all night and it's still pretty cloudy. I also set the temperature up to about 86 to start the cycle.

86 is way to high, even for a start up tank.
If you have no rock in there it could take up to a week or so.
Put rock in, and powerheads for movement, and it should clear up in a couple of days.

Ok so ill lower the temp. And so far there is about 20lbs of live rock. Then when I get home, I'll turn the power heads on.

I just thought turning the pumps on would make it worse by blowing everything around

What kind of filter? HOB? And I'm currently cycling a tank as well. Im running it at 84-85.. I have read that warmer temps increase the bacteria's reproduction rate.. could be BS but vie read it in several places

I kept the powerheads on and changed the filter sock every few hours and it was gone in a day without having rinsing the sand. If you're running an HOB/canister, then keep replacing whatever mechanical filtration you are using. They'll be saturated with the dust quick and can only handle so much.

Anyway you could share a link to what you've read? Or is this just something you read from another's post?

What equipment do you have? What amount of sand do you have?
What planning Reef ? Marina ?

I know it sounds weird to turn the powerheads on at this point, but for whatever the reason, they actually help clear the tank, that and having rock in the tank.

Yeah I have a aqueon hob filter and will replace the filters and everything. But yeah I read off of some link to turn the tank temp up to 85ish as well. Something to help bacteria rate grow and die off faster. Could be a hoax I don't know. I set the temperate to 80 and left for work. So we will see if it gets any clearer when I get home. I will also have to turn the pumps on when I get back. I just thought the pumps would make it worse by keeping everything floating around and never actually setting in.
