Just curious. Just had to replace both wet sides on my mp10s after a year and a half. First one failed and 2nd one is very noisy now. I clean about every two months and this last cleaning the white ceramic? On the rotating shaft crumbled when I took it apart for a deep clean. Made one heck of a noise when I tried to run it. Fortunately BRS ships fast. Lol
What have y’all experienced with the life span of the wetsides?

No issues yet for over 18 months, I never clean them.

Are you using vinegar to clean? Ive has 3 mp wetsides crap out on me with swollen/cracked magnet casings. One mp10 and two mp40s. Two in the past month. When that happens there’s a lot of friction to turn the blades, and when you open it up, you can see the crack in the magnet casing.

I think in the future I’m going to take each wetside apart and wash the magnet part with water and the rest with diluted vinegar. Im tired of dealing with customer service, even though they haven’t given me much trouble.

I generally soak in 50/50 vinegar and water. This time I think the impeller was seized or starting to seize to the shaft. It was a bugger to get apart

Don't get the silicone on the lock tabs though. The screen will come off very easily when you are adjusting it to get the propeller as quiet as possible.
What is the silicone you use? That’s not a bad idea.

This with a Q tip to put it where I want it.

I discovered that trick when my nyos skimmer cup tried to weld itself to the base. You should put it on every oring after a cleaning anyway. It's super thick and easy to place. That little container I've had for a few years.

Since the QD "upgraded" stuff I've had to replace much more frequently. I don't use vinegar on the magnet/propeller piece anymore after several swollen magnets. That's a sign of crappy sealing on the plastics.

Not long......one year!

I'll speculate that you clean in vinegar.

I've said this a number of times, DO NOT USE VINEGAR TO CLEAN ANY PLASTIC COATED METAL PARTS.

Vinegar is a small neutral acid (dissociates very poorly) and because of this is able to penetrate the plastic....eventually getting to the metal parts (magnets), and causing them to rust and swell. If you want to clean your parts in acid, please use either muriatic acid (dilute 1 to 10) or citric acid (3/4 to 1 cup made up to one gallon).

Good to know. I’ll have to get some citric acid for sure. Thanks for the tip

Haven’t had any problems with any of the wetsides on almost a dozen vortech pumps. Replaced my last old style MP40 wetside about a year ago. None of my QD wetsides show signs of failing; and many are four plus years old. I never clean anything except the cages in any kind of acidic solution, and never have.
