So I was NOT running carbon in my main DT for a while. Had some outbreaks of bad stuff (due to travel and extremely hectic work schedule but now getting back to normal) and am running GFO and ROX carbon ..

Introduced the ROX carbon slowly to start so I don't shock the tank. Started by running 1 tablespoon for every 10 gal. At 145 gal system I just ran 14 tablespoons for the last 7 days.

Is it ok for me to now take that rox out, rinse it and add more? But how much more? I was going to eventually add and run 1 tblsp for every gallon of water. (as this is what I read previously as a good amount)

But since I am starting slowly, I was going to now add 1 tblsp for every 5 gal (instead of every gal., and also cause I was previously running 1 tblsp for every 10 gal)

Run that for about 7 days then increase it after a week.

Sound ok?

(Eventually as I get my system back to normal, I am going to follow melevsreef you tube video and run the carbon for a few days, polish the water and then take it out -- but I am also not against just running it non stop and all the time either)

Yes I have adjusted the lights .. thank you :)

I am just wondering how much I can bump up my rox too and the amount I can use now without shocking the system

I would do 12 table spoons to be safe.

BRS calculator tells me that is exactly where I should be at ... but I read somewhere that you can use 1 tablespoon for every gallon!!! Needless to say I did not do that yet before I checked out that calculator and falling on the advice of other experts.

Every gallon?! It's every 10 lol. That's insane.

OK, because you had written "But since I am starting slowly, I was going to now add 1 tblsp for every 5 gal"

I'd stick with 1 tablespoon per 10 gal and change 50% of it each week or two for a while. :)
