How long is too long?

Okay, my Yasha goby (Stonogobiops yasha) has vanished over the past week (I slowly saw it less and less often). Now I can’t even see him in the crevice he hides in, or even anywhere round the tank. I’ll test phosphates in a few minutes (Once I finish writing this). He was out a ton at the start of the week, now he’s nowhere to be seen in the tank. I know with most fish you wait 3-4 weeks, sometimes they can vanish for months. Gobies aren’t usually this fish unless there’s aggression in the tank, in my tank this isn’t the case. This is because my tank has 4 gobies, 1 blenny and 3 wrasses (2 are temporary). And one of the 4 gobies that wouldn’t be out of there was any aggression is crawling around as I type this. Now, my yasha is just over 2 years old, their expected life span is 2 years, with only some getting to 3 years. As for was he eating? He ate a lot less than he normally would as the week went on. Then he began to not come out as often now, I can’t even see him in his cave.

Now for the question:
How long is too long when it comes to waiting to find a body?

I have had fish disappear for over months and one fish for over a year. My longest disappearing fish have been a Bartlett anthias and a damselfish. I once had a Bartlett disappear and 3 months later I saw the tip of a tail underneath a rock and realized it was still a living fish, so I took apart the rocks and then pops out this extremely skinny Bartlett that must have been trapped under there. Even crazier was that years ago I had a damselfish pop out of the rockwork one day literally a year or two after I had last seen a damsel in my tank, still is the most shocking thing I’ve ever seen. Hopefully your goby is just in hiding.

I have hopes - Apparently someone in the house saw him yesterday when feeding. Didn’t see how much he ate though, usually when I fed him he would eat every bit of mysis/brine that went past him but in the past few weeks/days I fed him, he ate 2-3 pieces and then just sat there. I’m pretty sure even my Griessingers eats more than him.

I have hopes - Apparently someone in the house saw him yesterday when feeding. Didn’t see how much he ate though, usually when I fed him he would eat every bit of mysis/brine that went past him but in the past few weeks/days I fed him, he ate 2-3 pieces and then just sat there. I’m pretty sure even my Griessingers eats more than him.

Hopefully someone indeed saw him that would be a good sign, that’s definitely strange that he didn’t want to eat like normal, who knows that might not mean anything but only time will tell, wishing you all the best.

More good news if the phosphates are 0.06-0.07, they normally stay around that in the tank so it’s not spiked yet. I’ve been worried about him ever since he started to slow down with food as it seems that’s a big sign of slowing down when it comes to old age.
