How long should I wait for mag to come down

Ok so whole back I notice algae growing on rock, mag 1600 ish dkh 10.5 cal 525 I raised it up with m tech to choke out algae did not work . How long should I wait to change water for mag to drop ?

It will only drop by water change. Consumption is too slow to bring it down appreciably.

Did it help the algae?

Any sluggish snails?

If not on the sluggishness, I'd probably just resume your normal water change schedule, whatever it was.

It didn't help on the algae it made new string like algae on sand band then I'm seeing furry red algae on rocks. Not sure what u mean by snails sluggish,moving slower?

Yes, some folks report their snails just lay there when magnesium is very high, and recover when it drops.

I've had high mag for as long as I started using af reef salt....any suggestions on how to go about lowering this?

Well from searching around I have only been able to come up with this as a solution. A bigger water change more like a 30 percent will drop my mag by 30 percent,since my salt mix holds a lower amount of mag, how much mag swing can a tank handle then in 24 hr period ?had a kh swing long time ago and lost some coral,was wondering if mag could do same thing
