How long should the pipes be going into the sump?

So got a custom sump made but was wondering how far under the water should the pipes coming from the overflow be? Any thoughts?

Are you running some type of siphon drain? Is so I'd say these drains should be no more than a few inches. I'd like to hear what others say.

I have run siphon both submerged and emersed. Both are quiet but submerged takes the edge.
Mine has always be not more than an inch. The last part of the drain after the bend -i don't glue it, just for convenience

I have a dual overflow tank, one full siphon and one open channel in each. Both open channels are submerged 5-6” and both siphons are just barely submerged. I also do not glue the pipes there.

| This Though I would shorten the open as well just to make it a little easier to force the air out if it needs to go full siphon in the event of an overflow. Not mandatory but doesn't hurt
