so i currently have a bicolor angel in QT.im assuming he’s got ich. Over the last two months he’s been losing all his blue color and has been flashing. He still eats and is active. My question is, I’m currently using coppersafe. The dosage listed is not enough to equal the therapeutic range so I followed a post I saw on here to get it to 1.7. However the copper test is very hard to read and it goes from 1-2. How long till you should see improvement in your fish when using copper?

Typically, most symptoms would be gone in the 1st 7-14 days.

Are you using the API test?

How long have you had the fish in copper?

Copper also does suppress appetite, and can cause fish to look less vibrant.

There's that ^^^ but also the loss of color could be caused by a secondary bacterial infection. The infection wouldn't be treated with the copper, even when the parasite has been taken care of by it. It may require antibiotics to cure the infection.

I’m currently using kanaplex and focus on food. So far he’s been in therapeutic range of copper for 3 days and I don’t see any improvement. I’m using API test kit but the colors are so close and I’m trying to run it at 1.7 so it’s tough to determine actual result of the test. It goes from 1 to 2 on the test kit so it’s tough to determine the in between. I just want to know so in 7 days if there’s no improvement I should raise the copper.

I have recently been experimenting with all types of copper (more emphasis on chelated forms of copper). If your using API, I would attempt to match 2.0 color. The fish should tolerate 2.0ppm.

Also when reading your API test. Do it outside, keep the vial 1/4-1/2" above the card, reading from the top, in indirect sunlight. That will give you the most accurate reading.
