How long to determine if a parameter is stable?

When would you conside a parameter to be stable? After a month, few months... etc?

Longer is always better.

I've always felt that two months was a good measure for ALK, though when you have a tank full of growing coral, that could easily drop on a monthly basis.

I think we saw true stability around 9 months.

And what if a parameter was changed, elevated or dropped too quickly on an established tank, how long would it take to stabilize?
