I have either flukes or ich not sure which, so am looking to do a freshwater dip on my blue tang which is covered in spots and bumps. I will be using a black bowl to make identification either if anything falls off.
Wondering how long to leave it in the fresh water for? Some say 5 minutes some say 2 minutes. What’s worked for you

I'd suggest closer to 4 but at the very least 3 to get good results. Of course, remove if the fish looks too stressed out.

No more than 5. Humblefush & Mel have the whole how to process around here somewhere

Ive read no more than 5. I've dipped up to 10 without any bad side effects.... shh......

but generally 5 minutes is fine.

You can repeat again the next day if needed.

If it doesn't kill what you want after 2-3 dips though I'd recommend QT'ing and medicated.

It's definitely not 100% effective.

Hopefully the URL / Link below works. If not do a search on Methylene blue dip bath Bob Fenner.

This is what I do for all fish that I introduce to my system. First time I stressed out more than the fish but this process will work. Methylene blue is some amazing stuff and per the info below states it's a good oxygenating dye, sort of like our blood's hemoglobin, aiding in keeping oxygen concentration high. It also is helpful in reducing light penetration, soothing frightened livestock. In fact, Methylene Blue converts methemoglobin to useful hemoglobin, reversing the ill-effects of nitrite and even cyanide exposure.

So as you can see it is all around a good solution to use as part of your freshwater dip or bath. I only do the dips ranging from 5 to 15 minutes. I have not had the need to do the 30 minute bath. I will say every fish I've run this through that makes it always has a 100% success rate entering my display. I've only had 1 fish not make it through 15 minutes (had to pull it out before) and it didn't make it.
