I’m in a weird spot. Had pretty bad GHA outbreak that I’ve knocked back. I actually could not keep it in control; I was up to the morning hours many nights scrubbing rock and netting it out. Lost some SPS because of it choking them out. Out of desperation I dosed fluconazole. Into week 3 and the growth has really slowed down and is much more manageable. I did notice my corals slowed their big 3 demand considerably; likely due to the nutrient constraint. I figured this would be a good time to introduce a fuge as the chaeto would actually have a chance at competing with the GHA. From my research, the fluconazole should not affect the chaeto. I purchased an H160, created an egg crate fuge in my sump, and have it running 12hrs opposite my lights, max intensity, and pinkish color.
I’m on day 4 and haven’t really noticed any growth. I was wondering if there is an acclimation period before it starts growing, just like with corals?
Also, interesting note: my NO3 and PO4 levels have pretty much never tested above 0-0.5 and 0-0.o1, respectively, during any stage of my 8 month old tank’s lifespan. I remember one time my NO3 registering as a solid 1 and celebrating lol. Before, during, and after mitigation of the GHA never really had an impact. I started the fuge thinking the chaeto may be able to help, but this could be a limiting factor as well (though if there was ammonia in the water, could the chaeto feed off that as well).
