Just received this GSP from a family friend. I can see up very close some of the neon green on the piece. How long would you expect until this grows out tentacles?

It depends how different your tank is compared to where it came from. Looking at this pic, the tank is obviously very new, and it is difficult for corals to adjust to brand new tanks like this. Ensure the water parameters are correct, place it in correct lighting and flow, and keep everything as stable as possible, and in time it will open up.

Basically what he said. Except I’ll add “pretty much right away.” If corals are happy and not stressed they’ll come out. I usually do a little light acclimation with new corals; you don’t know how much PAR it’s used to and low is better than high. Other than that just make sure your parameters are acceptable.

As an aside, GSP can be beautiful. But, it’s also kind of a weed and difficult to control so be careful where you put it. Even if it does really well for a while you can get patchy crashes that really interrupt the look like a bad lawn. But, I have a beautiful piece right now on a finger like branch rock that’s started to cover the whole piece and it looks great.
