I'm going to have to temporarily convert the refugium part of my sump to accommodate a fish. I was going to just moved the chaeto over to a bucket with saltwater, but wondering how long it can stay like that (without flow or light on it)?

Thanks!

Day or two. you should be able to tell by the smell. :) Try to get some flow and light and can stay long time.

It really depends on how clean the chaeto is (how much detritus, organics and creatures are trapped in the chaeto). Clean stuff lasts a lot longer. An airstone can help increase the life in a bucket, but I would minimize the time in the bucket before it becomes mush.

Why not get a mesh laundry bag put it in that than place it in your tank.
