How many corals can you add at a time

How many corals can I add to my 80gallon tank at once? Is there a rule on that?

I've added over 30 to 40 frags at one time to my 55 gallon with no problems. Just make sure you have good water conditions.

Corals don't add to the bioload like fish do, so you can add more. I would just start with adding a few pieces at a time if the system is new.

The biggest thing to consider when adding a lot of Corals is what they need to thrive. If you go say all sps and though add a massive amount at once they could deplete your alk/calc quickly same with lps Corals. Like seahorsekeeper mentioned with the newer systems adding slowly like say 3-5 Corals at a time and then watching your parameters so you know what you need to supplement will work the best

i added 20+ sps at once without any issues, just test regularly to determine depletion levels and dose accordingly

just opened up my first store and im looking for a little information on this subject
if i was to d oa bulk purchase to set my tanks up , would it make sense to purchase 25+ corals to put into 2 different tanks ? what would be the downfall to adding this many or more at a time.

You need to assure your parameters are stable and at acceptable levels.

The only real concern with adding corals is the fluctuations in parameters as more might be used up by the corals. However I haven’t ever need a massive drop from adding many frags. Just keep up on your parameters.

My plans are to find a couple of farmers that are trusted and add all planned frags as soon as tank cycled once main is up. This way I can go FOLLOW for a few months before adding fish. CUC added just before frags and after some algae starts forming.

Never done this but research as being indicated by others support this approach. Only caveat being I’ll be adding ammonium chloride once cycled to keep that going in preparation for when I then add fish which either come from trusted sources or my own QT. Not a fan of empty tanks and my patience probably not best suited for this but I’ll just deal with it

Yep. Add away. As stated, monitor your parameters and just make sure your ALK, Ca and Mg (this depletes at one tenth rate of the Ca) are within limits.

The answer is it depends. When you add a lot at one time it can change the chemistry. For Instance alot of fast growing sps corals added in or taken out at once can change the consumption of alk and that can affect all your corals

Yeah as people above, you can add as many corals as you want. Main priority is your parameters being stable. Adding corals is way less stressful than fish. Plus if you think they're not doing good, you can just move them around!
