i have had my yellow tangs in copper power over 2.0 for 29 days now. how many more days? 1 more? i also have been fallow in my tank for awhile. how long is conservative? AND for good measure...how many treatments of pratzi should i do? 2 or 3? we thought my tangs might have ich or velvet.

30 days of copper. Then do water changes to remove copper. Then two weeks of prazi. Dose, wait a week, do a 25% water change and dose again. Then after that your fish are ready. The display has to have been fallow for 76 days to be fully effective :)
Hope this helps :)

We have seen lately some prazi resistant flukes. So, dose, wait 5-7 days, do a 25% water change, dose again, wait 5-7 days, do a 25% water change and . . . then wait 10-14 days to observe for prazi resistant flukes. Can repeat if necessary. Can combine with treating with metro to cover more of the worms commonly found in saltwater fish. General Cure has both prazi + metro and is a powder form. And has less effect on the O2 levels in the tank as liquid prazi does, which requires added O2 to keep your fish breathing normally. A powerhead aimed up at the surface where it is actively rippling the water surface is one of the best O2 additions you can do for your fish.

Curious, do we know how long each dose takes to do it's job? Wondering in regard to if a water change is needed say 2 or 3 days later after either dose.

Edit: to clarify, I am specifically referring to Prazi and Metro.

General Cure has Prazi & Metro in it, so it is better than Prazipro in terms that you get additional value. And Prazipro can cause issues with oxygen levels in the tank, whereas my understanding is that GC does not (or at least not near as much). I personally plan to use GC over Prazipro going forward. FWIW, I used Prazipro for the last 8 years and never had any fish issues with it though, then again I kept an airstone going at all times.

Edit: I am assuming by "Pratzi" you mean Prazipro?

yes, i almost always spell that wrong!!! lol. ok, so general cure it is.

i should ask, if i kept the water at 76 degrees, do i need longer than 30 days???!!!!

30 days is all that is needed. Keep in mind though that if any cysts hatch after the 30 days that any fish in the QT will be reinfected. The best method for ensuring no parasite carryover is to only do copper or chloroquine for 14 days, then transfer the fish to a sterile QT. This eliminates any issues with cysts. And is better for the fish given less time in copper.

Read up on HumbleFish's guide to QT. Go specifically to the part that says "Option B", this is what I would highly recommend to do and really should be the hobby standard. https://humble.fish/quarantine/

i think i saw a tiny black spot on one of the yellow tangs. potentially black ich but i have never had a fish with it that i know of. what do i do to treat black ich? is that general cure? just put that in...he was in theraupitic copper power for 31 days.

Congrats! Long wait but well worth it. I just added fish back to my tank after three months as well. Good feeling seeing them back in their home.

when i'm done with these yellow tangs with general cure i get to put them in. i'm just so happy that my water isn't contaminated anymore!! lol

i have a fallow tank at 1.8 salinity how long will that take to kill copper. rocks are out in sun?

Do you mean you are trying to remove copper from the rocks, or are you trying to kill parasites in the rocks? Either way, since the rocks are out in the sun already, you might consider soaking them in freshwater mixed with white vinegar to keep the pH below 5. Do that for three days and then test the water for copper. If you get a positive reading, repeat the process. If not, just soak the rocks in a change of freshwater to rinse the vinegar off and you can reuse them.

Wait a sec. Are you saying here that the vinegar helps remove some of the residual copper? I've been looking for an alternative to some of the products out there since I tend to use DT marine pure spheres for QT in place of a sponge when I'm out. I'm fine leaving old QT marinepure in vinegar for weeks if that means I can eventually reuse in the DT with the parasites and copper mostly gone from them. Thanks!

Holding the pH low causes some of the surface carbonates to dissolve, taking some copper with it. The copper is absorbed and adsorbed onto surfaces, but it starts on the outside and goes in. So - if you can dissolve some of the carbonate, it will take copper with it. In practice though, while this does release copper, if ionic copper was used, the amount of copper bound to the rock is so high, that even running this process multiple times may not get it all. If coppersafe or copper power was used for a short period, this will help.
