Ok.... everyone throw out any dither fish that come to mind. I have a few ideas but would love to hear more. Space isn’t too much of an issue as there will be an 8x3 ft swimming space. So bigger fish like heniochus could work . So throw out what come to mind and no Lookdowns.

+1 big school of chromis

I have always wanted to try 5 or so chalk bass as they are supposed to "school".

Chalk bass are such underrated reef fish IMO, under the right light their blue stripes glow like crazy!

Chalk Bass- didn’t know if that one.

chromis
Heniochus
Squirrel fish
Stripeys

these are the one I have thought of so far

I have 5 line and pajama cardinals that act as the dither fish in my tank. I also just added 5 x Chalk Bass yesterday, so we will see how they do. I LOVE chalk bass!

Please post pics once they get accustomed! I love chalkbass too!

Let me ask this .... this shoal would be going into. 650 display with large angels, tangs, few large wrasse, couple of triggers. Do you think a shoal of 20 chromis or so could generally be left alone?

what kind of triggers? also I'd stick with 19 or 21 chromis, they tend to do better in odd numbers.

I think the other fish (maybe trigger depending on sp.) would leave the chromis alone. That being said, I have NEVER successfully kept a shoal of chromis in a tank, even my 300DD. They always pick one another off until there are only a few left. Not a fish I plan on trying any more.

mollies
chromis
bangai cardinals
Pajama cardinals
in some cases fire gobies
anthias
there are probably more too
