How many firefish can I keep?

There are several people here who have successfully kept more than 1 firefish. I've have a regular firefish and a purple firefish in my nano without any issues.
Are they separate or paired?

Do you just buy 2 firefish and they'll form a pair like clownfish, or is it uncertain whether or not they'll actually pair?

Firefish have fixed genders, so don't as readily form pairs as transitional hermaphrodites.

I would call into question on how long multiples are kept together and any other pertinant details on its success.

Could a male and female of different species (N. decora and N. magnifica) possibly form a pair? I guess that I wouldn't be terribly surprised.

Sringerii damsels are the only species I have been able to keep in large numbers in my 180& 120 gallon anemone tank and softie tank. Firefish eventually murdered one another over s years time. A dozen green chromis murdered one another over a 6 month period of time. Once these species settle in and reach sexual maturity the illusion of a community school begins to break down and The Purge begins

I know this post is over 4 years old but... were u able to keep your red n purple fire fish together without issues?

10 years ago when I had my 120, I kept all 3 popular firefish in my tank: red, purple, and Helfrichi. Never had a death or even nipped fins. I had a purple and red in my 90 before that. Now in my 65, I cannot even keep two firefish for more than a month, so it's one for me.
