i have a 45 gallon cube , i have 2 clowns, cardinal, molly and dottyback and sand sifting goby.

There might be room.

What do you want? What are the dimensions of the tank?

the dimensions are 24x24 , i need a algae eater. My favorite fish is a scopas tang, but don’t want to over crowd the tank.

There is no way a tang should go into a 45 gallon.

You might have enough room for one more depending if there is available spot for a new fish to build its home. Every fish needs a tiny bit of real estate to call their own, or else you face aggression and jumping fish.

It is almost impossible to say without knowing your filtration and water chemistry. Definitely no tangs in that tank unfortunately. Even based strictly on tank size and current stocking, I am not sure I would add anything else.

I’m running 2 clowns, six line and small biota tang. And I felt like that was overload so I def wouldn’t put a tang with already that many fish just because of bioload and the tang needs to destress and have hiding spots , scopas tang is too aggressive and needs more swimming room.

I could imagine with the purple. It all depends on how well you can keep the environment with some tangs. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t .
The purple is much more aggressive

I plan to upgrade to a 90-120 gallon in 1-2years

what species of goby is it?
There are many gobies that go under the name Sand sifting goby.
If it's from the genus I think it's from then you will need an endless amount of food in the sand and 4-5 feedings daily to keep it thriving longterm in a 2' tank. The genus I assume it's from is Valenciennea, the one genus of goby that may be harder than mandarins to keep alive longterm.

I would say a Koumansetta goby is a good algae eater, in specific Koumansetta hectori - they eat algae off of the sand and rocks. However due to the sandsifting goby in there already I wouldnt do it.

Valenciennea i learned the hard way didn't do my research :crying-face: was such a nice fish 2 tbh i trusted what the fish store put.

"It feeds off the bottom as it sifts through the sand eating mouthfuls of substrate and the food that lives within the sand, keeping the substrate well oxygenated. The Sleeper Gold Head Goby feeds on a variety of live and frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, live black worms, and prepared foods for carnivores, and should be fed frequently."

so never though anything of it

My first and last attempt at this fish was a few years ago, I had a Valenciennea strigatus and unfortunately no matter what I did in a 3' tank, he slowly got thinner and then eventually withered away. I would love to attempt this species again but I just dont have the mature enough tank...

You can try a tailspot blenny or a bicolor blenny, both pick at algae. I would do an acclimation box to make sure the goby and the dottyback welcome them without any bullying.

Essentially what @Waters said. If you have a great filtration setup - you can have generally have more more (healthy) fish. I had 10 fish in a 25-gallon with an awesome filtration setup. But it was a lot of work to stay on top of it...

filter sock, bubble magus x-7 skimmer, charcoal and like a mesh filter media between baffle. i do weekly water changes and daily tank glass cleaning.

tuxedo urchins, trochus snails, and emerald crabs are all excellent algae eaters without overloading the tank.
